"My favorite rock band of all time goes so far beyond traditional rock. Progressive (prog) rock giants Emerson Lake and Palmer (ELP) have been a massive influence ever since I first started to understand and appreciate their incredibly complex but intentional music. Keith Emerson is one of the few composers who writes melodic but complex chord progressions that I have a hard time figuring out by ear, Greg Lake sung and played along every bit of it, while contributing gorgeous ballads and songs along the way. Carl Palmer is much more than a drummer, he is truly an orchestral percussionist with a drum kit."
"After starting with Spanish classical guitar, I started hearing my uncle Robert and brother Drew playing Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed songs. This style immediately became an absolute favorite for life. Since then, I've gone on to find and see guitarists like Tommy Emmanuel and Richard Smith live. Playing with my thumb and fingers has given me the ability to set myself apart from other guitar players in the way that Mark Knopfler and Jeff Beck did. I've also had the pleasure of recording and sharing a stage with one of my favorite fingerstyle guitar players, John Standefer."
Original Song: Vocals, guitars, keys, bass, recording & mixing by Lucas Holmgren. Drums by Ryan Mckee. Mastered by Kevin Nettleingham.
"Written early in the Summer of 2024, this song speaks to a bit of self-care going along way, but nothing is better than being with the ones we love. Thanks to Ryan for the beat & Kevin for the punchy master. Enjoyed using my new Fender Telecaster for the lead, using a Knopfler/Beck style thumb and fingerstyle lead."
"Every sound on this song including drum programming was created from scratch by me. Artwork by my talented brother Drew Holmgren. Thanks to Nick Popov (Addicted Guide) I now have a Korg SV-1 in the Studio. This song started as a way to use the bell-like single-note leads of the electric piano over an 808 trap-style hi-hat. I built a melody in my head over the chords typed into "Notes" on my phone, and with minimal edits later, I tracked several vocals, guitars, keys and a few other elements."
"The first verse and chorus of this song were written in 2021, forgotten about until 2024. I then finished the rest of the song and recorded it in my studio on the Breedlove Acoustic Guitar and Korg SV-1 piano. I'd like to think of this as modern-folk or something of the sort."
“Lucas is one of only a handful of musicians for whom I'd use the word 'genius.'
No matter what style he puts his mind to, he makes it his own and takes it to new limits. A true inspiration, Lucas will go far!”
"That guy can play guitar, piano, bass and sing...and probably a load of other things he has yet to unleash on the world."
